Three checks before any AI toy gets recommended.

    What the badge is measured against

    A "40% off" tag is measured against a list price the seller sets, not against what the product actually sold for last month. So we ignore the percentage and tell you the one number that matters: the price on the page right now, with the moment we read it.

  2. 02

    Total cost over two years

    1 of the 3 products we have reviewed need a monthly plan. We add that to the sticker price, because a gift that stops working in month two was not a gift.

  3. 03

    What it records about your home

    Microphones, cameras, accounts and retention policies get a plain score. If a toy sends your child's voice to a server, that goes in the write-up in those words.

Some of these toys stop working when a company closes.

The company behind Moxie closed and the cloud service that powered the robot was switched off. Owners were left with hardware that could no longer do the thing they paid for.
