Privacy policy
This site is built by people who spend their time complaining about privacy policies, so this one is short and written in normal sentences.
Who is responsible for your data
AI Gift Radar operates aigiftradar.com and is the data controller for this site: the party that decides what is collected and why. You can reach us about anything on this page, including a request to see or delete data, through the contact page. We answer those requests ourselves.
- ·What we collect: analytics data if you accept the banner, your email address if you subscribe, and whatever you write to us. Nothing else.
- ·Why: to understand which pages are useful, to send the newsletter you asked for, and to answer you. We do not use it for advertising and we do not sell it.
- ·Legal basis: consent for analytics and for the newsletter, which you can withdraw at any time; legitimate interest for answering correspondence.
Who this site is for
This site is written for adults choosing a gift. It is not directed to children and it is not intended for use by anyone under 13. The products we write about are for children, but the writing is not: we do not use cartoons, games or child-oriented features, and we ask for no information about a child. The picker asks for an age so it can filter results, and that answer stays in your browser; it is never sent to us.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, use the contact page and we will delete it.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and products people check. It sets cookies and processes data such as the pages you view, how you arrived, and an approximate location. IP anonymisation is on, and the data is not used for advertising.
Nothing is stored until you agree. The banner asks first, the default is "denied", and you can decline and still read everything on the site. Your choice is remembered in your browser; clearing site data resets it.
You can also block analytics with any content blocker, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on, without losing access to the site. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell data to anyone.
Third parties that set cookies
Two third parties can place or read cookies through this site, and neither is under our control once it has done so:
- · Google, for Analytics, and only after you accept the banner.
- · Amazon, when you click a link to a product on Amazon. Amazon may then set its own cookies, including for advertising, and it collects information directly from you on its own sites under its own privacy notice. Those cookies are set by Amazon, not by us, and we cannot read them.
Affiliate links
Purchase links on this site are affiliate links, which means we earn a commission if you buy through one, at no extra cost to you. When you click one, the retailer sets a cookie so that a purchase can be attributed to this site. We never receive your name, address or payment details, and we cannot see what you bought.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for an account, we do not collect payment information, we do not run advertising networks, and we do not store anything about individual shoppers. There is no tracking pixel from any advertising network on this site.
If you subscribe to the radar, your address is stored with our email provider for the purpose of sending that newsletter. Every message has a one-click unsubscribe link. We do not rent, sell or share the list, and we do not send anything other than what you signed up for. We do not send price alerts, and we never will.
Product data
Current prices and product images on this site come from the Amazon Creators API, which is the only price source we use. We do not scrape Amazon, we do not use a third-party price feed, and we do not publish or store a price history. Each reading is shown with the timestamp it was taken, and a reading older than 24 hours is not published at all.
How long we keep things
- ·Analytics is retained in Google Analytics 4 for 14 months, then deleted automatically. We keep no separate copy.
- ·Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe, and deleted within 30 days of that.
- ·Emails you send us are kept for up to 12 months so that corrections can be traced, then deleted.
- ·Product prices are held for at most 24 hours. Nothing older is stored or published, and no price history exists.
Who else touches it
Three companies process data on our behalf, and only for the purpose named:
- ·Google (Analytics) holds the analytics data, if you accepted the banner.
- ·Resend holds the newsletter list and sends the emails.
- ·Cloudflare hosts the site and keeps standard server logs.
- ·Amazon is not a processor. It is an independent controller, and only sees you once you click through to it.
All three are in the United States, so if you are in the UK or the EEA your data is transferred there. They process it only on our instructions and only for the purposes described above. We have no advertising partners and no data brokers.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do any of the following, and we will answer within 30 days using the contact page:
- ·See what we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
- ·Correct anything inaccurate.
- ·Delete it, unless we are required to keep it.
- ·Object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time.
- ·Take it elsewhere in a portable format.
If you are in the UK or the EEA you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. We would rather you came to us first.
Withdrawing consent
If you accepted the analytics banner, you can withdraw at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings; the banner will ask again on your next visit and you can decline. Blocking the analytics script with a content blocker has the same effect. Neither costs you access to anything on the site. Newsletter consent is withdrawn with the unsubscribe link in any message.
California residents
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. There is no advertising network on this site and no advertising cookie we control. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of anything we hold, use the contact page and we will respond within 45 days. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.
Your choices
You can block analytics with any content blocker without losing access to the site. To have an email address removed, use the unsubscribe link or the contact page, and it will be deleted rather than retained.
